Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, this role organizes, directs, and completes the daily activities for a laboratory within AVO Diagnostic Services. This role is considered to be a production lead and is responsible for overseeing and participating in the day-to-day operations focused on quality assurance and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting laboratory results. Additional facilities management and employee relations tasks are completed with the direct supervision of the Regional Laboratory Manager. Laboratory Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures all safety and environmental requirements are in place, and are trained and in compliance with state, federal or providence regulations. Ensure proper training and disposal of related hazardous materials.
• Follows all department / laboratory work instructions, including maintaining current training logs and completed competency evaluations for the local laboratory team.
• Maintains housekeeping and organization of the laboratory space.
• Ensures timely and accurate preparation, analysis and quantitation of test samples received in the laboratory following ASTM methods and internal procedures.
• Generates and report analytical data when required
• Provides point of contact client and technical service support (i.e. interpretation of test results, answering of status or technical questions, or fulfilling of special requests)
• Provides laboratory technical support (coordination with vendors for repairs, calibrations, coordinating with laboratory team for routine maintenance/troubleshooting of equipment)
• Assists the laboratory team as part of the on-call chemist rotation when designated.
• Supports and participates in laboratory quality programs including reviewing and updating standard operating procedures to ensure compliance as well as participating in local and remote audits.
• Works with the Regional Laboratory Manager to establish employee schedules, time off requests, and workload prioritization.
• Works with the Regional Laboratory Manager to mentor and develop staff capabilities including recruitment, feedback, and performance appraisals.
• Coordinates purchasing, receiving goods, inventory, invoicing duties for the lab ensuring appropriate approvals and processes are followed and adhering to budgetary and policy requirements
• Follows AVO Diagnostic Solutions’ values, shared purpose and power wheel to be a role model for the laboratory team
• Performs additional operational tasks and functions at the direction of the Regional Laboratory Manager
Job Requirements:
• BS or BA in Chemistry, Biology or related technical field (Chemistry background preferred)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting
• Minimum of 2 years supervisory or lead experience required
• Proficiency in computer applications (SAP and LIMS experience preferred)
• Customer support experience required
• Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written
• Experience with Gas Chromatography preferred
• Willingness and ability to become certified as an internal auditor, meeting ISO17025 requirements.
• Ability to travel (minimum 1 week / year) required.
